Parts include a precision-turned balsa nosecone, laser cut basswood fins, plywood centering rings, a cardstock boattail, a chrome mylar wrap, and a water transfer nameplate decal.
This kit represents the single-stage configuration of the Arcas, painted as it flew for making actual measurements.
Display nozzles remain in place for correct profile in flight.
Includes drawing suitable for entering model in NAR Sport Scale contest .
Kit designed by Rockets of the World author Peter Alway.
The real Arcas was a small meteorological sounding rocket designed to take regular measurements of wind, air pressure, and temperature at altutudes of up to 30 miles (48 km). Weighing 75.6 lb (34.4 kg), the Arcas was just 4 1/2 inches (11.4 cm) in diameter and 7 1/2 feet (2.3 m) long. The first Arcas flew in late 1958 or early 1959. Arcases took regular meteorological soundings (measurements) through the 1960's. Eventually, the Loki Dart and Super Loki Dart took over that job, but NASA and other agencies still have some Arcas rockets in stock for research.
Kit comes with high quality components and well written instructions.
