In 1999, Porsche decided to concentrate its professional road racing efforts in a racing version of the 996 GT3. The car made its first appearance at the French classic, Le Mans, in 1999. Right out of the box, the GT3R scored its first victory by winning the GT class at the race. The racing GT3R features a high-mounted rear wing for better down force during high speed and a deep front spoiler with side vents.
